#1 - The Beginning

It's time to dust off the keyboard and start writing again!
Our backyard.  The addition will go on the far left side of the house.

There came a time when I stopped blogging regularly about life as a mom of young kids.  It was around the time that the needs of kids stopped being the standard needs of babies and toddlers (eating, drinking, sleeping, etc) and shifted into their own individual needs as individual humans.

I also remember a time when I had put something on my blog or Facebook--I don't remember what--about Miss E and someone came up to her and said, "Oh, Miss E, I heard that you ________  (fill in the blank with the information I shared.)"  And she looked at me like a deer in the headlights.  She had no idea how this person knew that personal detail about her.  And, I realized then that I didn't want to have to make that a daily occurrence where people (even people we know and love!) had information (even safe, harmless information!) about my kids as individuals that I had shared with the world, that my kid had no idea I shared.  Also, I didn't want to have to ask my 5 year old, "Yo.  Do you mind if I share your funny life story on Facebook or my blog."  So, I pulled back and stopped writing so frequently.

But, now...a new adventure is unfolding.  And this one does not have a personality or a need for privacy or the potential to end up on a therapist's couch one day saying, "My mom put all of my personal information online.  If only she would not have told the world about my firm belief that everyone should have one big eyebrow and not two, my life would be so different and so normal. Waaaah.  Sob. Sob."   Because the main character of this adventure is made from brick and mortar, not flesh and bones.

Technically, even brick and mortar could show us some personality and some stubbornness.  But, without a voice, at least it can't accuse me of ruining its life.

After years of lots of prayer and personal growth in the area of contentment, and years of talking over what our life priorities are, and years of discussing where we go from here, and years of learning to live in a smaller-ish (first world problems, yes, but we live in a first world country) space comfortably and trying not to be over-run by clutter (usually failing), and years of purging all the things that we don't need anyway (I have a list of great books on this!), and trying to be as financially savvy as possibly, and years of a lot of other (often conflicting) thoughts and feelings, we have decided to add onto our house.

When it's all said and done we'll go from a just under 1500 square foot one-story ranch house with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 living room, 1 dining room, 1 kitchen to a ranch house with a one-and-a-half-story addition.  Once it's finished, we'll have a bigger house with 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 1 living room, 1 family room, 1 kitchen.

This is the best way to keep everyone informed.  Instead of feeling the need to text all of our people individually with pictures, it's going to be a better use of time to update things here, and then all of you (maybe just one of you) can check in if you're interested in the progress.

It's about go get crazy up in here!
