#15 - These Walls Do More Than Talk. They Scheme.

There was a bit of a lull once framing was completed.  That was 10 +/- days ago.

Well, there was a bit of a lull in actual visible progress.  There's always something happening - a conversation with a plumber, electrician, banker (those are always the most annoying.  The bank is SO SLOW an I'm not even afraid to post that publicly), HVAC person, etc.

Oh, and a conversation between our washer and the rest of the house.  Our washer hates us.  And it took its hate and schemed with our wall.  Guess it was feeling neglected and needing some attention.  The washer sprang a leak.  And it got the wall in on it and made the wall take the water, ever-so-slowly through into our current master bathroom (our current master bath is back-to-back with our current laundry.), into our vanity, grew some nice mold in the process and warped the vanity door.  And made the bottom of the vanity soggy.

Who knows how long the washer's been leaking.  But, when I went to put towels away last week (normally it's a kid's job, so it's been quite some time since I've even been in that cupboard other than to grab a towel off the top.), I started straightening the piles and noticed some water damage and THEN SOME MOLD growing inside the vanity (all on the surface.  Don't be grossed out, it came up quickly with clorox water!).  I thought the sink was leaking, but I've learned a thing or two from Mr. Investigator and decided to cover all my bases.  The water pattern didn't indicate a leak from the sink.  It indicated a leak from somewhere behind the vanity.  Like, in the wall!  AGH. Please, no.

Oh. My. Goodness.  Sure enough, when I looked behind the washing machine, I saw water damage to the wall and baseboard behind it.  Apparently, the washer has been leaking for a good, long while.

Ain't nobody got time for that.  That was Thursday or Friday and along with normal life responsibilities, we have been buried in busy-ness! We had the HVAC crew coming Friday & Saturday,  Matt had things he needed to do Friday, which I cannot even remember, I had to go get my hands on some light fixtures asap.  We needed to have a dumpster delivered and to start filling that with rubble left over from framing.  Saturday, Matt had to go rent a trencher to start digging the trench for the electrical lines and for the new water line (Boy, that's a story.  That'll be it's own blog post! Let's just say some utilities WERE harmed in the making of the trench!.)

Ezra had a football game, yada yada, we just had a ton of stuff going on. (Meanwhile, the bank is driving us absolutely bonkers, and as I said is being as slow as molasses in January with their distribution of funds.  We are 100% fine having this loan wrapped into a mortgage.  But, that doesn't make it less true that The Borrower Is Slave To the Lender! We are at their mercy.  And we both hate it.  We can't pay our people as fast as we want to because the bank has such a drawn-out process before handing over fund.  It's crazy.)  So, the only time I had to devote to our broken washer situation was to spend  about 4.5 minutes on Craigslist.

I found the one and only ad that had 1) A washer that didn't look gross and B) mentioned that delivery is available.  I emailed the guy while I was at Ezra's football game negotiated to have delivery included in the price, and arranged for him to drop the washer and dryer off in a couple hours.  We went ahead and got a set because our dryer makes weird noises, and it was only around $20 more than most ads for just washers.  (Side note: Matt had to stay home to trench.  We warned the kids at the very beginning that for the greater good of the family, there will be special events that Daddy might have to miss.  They have been incredibly understanding.)

So, as of 2:00 yesterday, we're the proud new owners of a used set of machines.  We got the dryer inside late last night and stuck that in the kitchen beside the table, and left the washer outside with a tarp over it, and it's still there!!  Along with the dumpster, a torn up yard from trenching, a trencher, and lots of wood scraps.  It's a sight to behold.

It's an enormous mess out there! A passer-by even commented on our "huge mess" the other day.  I have no pictures of that right now, but I'll share some tomorrow!

This process was smooth sailing until the original house started to meddle!

Cause, once the old house started meddling, the new house played a little Monkey See, Monkey Do and gave us some problems of its own.

But that's another story for a new day.
