#36 - Master Bathroom 99% Complete!

It's funny, bathrooms gross me out.  I mean, I guess that's not funny, it makes sense.  But, it was one thing to snap pictures of the bathroom before we started using it, but now that we're using it; it makes me a little queasy to even show pictures of it.  It is pretty and I LOVE it, but do we have to talk about it?

You know how toilet paper tubes are a common craft item?  I wouldn't consider myself a squeamish person, but there was a defining point in my life when, as the Vacation Bible School craft lady, I looked down at a brown paper bag full of toilet paper tubes - I was the one who solicited the gathering of the toilet paper tubes from the church congregation - and suddenly, in my mind's eye, I saw the history represented by all of those TP tubes, representing all of those bathrooms.  And, I haven't used TP tubes for a craft ever since.  When TP tube crafts show up on pinterest, I have to look away. (It's not you, it's me. I'm not mad at you for joyfully doing your TP tube crafts.)

And then sometimes, that same brain that sees the history of the TP tubes really overthinks the fact that in our homes, there is a place in the house where we do our business and IT'S KIND OF WEIRD IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT.  Outhouses make so much more sense.  That's when I make myself try to stop overthinking because I don't want an outhouse, and I appreciate that we have 4 toilets in our home.  I guess.  (As I gag.)

I really do love our bathroom.  It just feels strange to show it on the internet, but I'm gonna do it anyway.

Here's the last post about our master bathroom.  We had a grouting nightmare but it worked out in the end.  I still scrape off some stray grout spots with my fingernails when I shower.  But we don't have to talk about showering either.

Here we are!
And if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times - I LOVE pretty things, but I also don't like to spend money unnecessarily (I don't think I'm cheap, I think I'm frugal, and I think there's a difference?), UNLESS it's something we think long and hard about and determined that it would be better to splurge.

So, here's the scoop on the bathroom:

The mirror was a garage sale find 5-8 years a go - $10.00

The vanity was a Craigslist bargain (we almost died) and had some damage so the guy sold it to us for $190.

This is what we used for a backsplash, which was a happy accident.  We had planned to use the splash that came with the sink, but the wall was bowed and it didn't fit.  So we had to use small tile instead.

The faucet is American Standard Quentin and we found one on Amazon and one on ebay.  I think we ended up getting 2 for the MSRP of one.

The double sink was right off the shelf from Lowe's after a grand annoying adventure.

The floor tile is from Floor and Decor and was under $2 a sq ft and i LOVE IT SO MUCH.  Word to the wise- always go darker on grout than you think you want.

That little shelf with TP is a temporary solution.  Eventually a linen cabinet will go in that nook with floor to ceiling shelving.

The shower tile (I don't remember what it's called.  That's it or at least similar.) is from Lowe's and was around $1.19 a sq ft

The niches in the shower are arabesque (also known as lantern) shape which is the shape I originally wanted for the floor.  However, I really wanted a large scale lantern tile for the floor - think 12" or more across; but I only came across it in smaller scale at a reasonable price.  At the time I was shopping, there was very little available at a large scale that wasn't double-digits per tile.  This is similar to what we used in the niches, but ours is grey and not on Lowe's website.

The niche ledges and the foot ledge in the shower are actual travertine stone (foot ledge better shown here, I didn't get a picture this time.) pieces that we bought to match the tile as closely as possible.  These pieces were much more expensive per square foot, however, it was worth it to get a thinner shelf and a nice foot ledge.  Those items weren't available in regular porcelain/ceramic/cheaper tile; and all the sides of those things are visible, so the back has to be stone also.

The toilet is an American Standard Champion 4 because we don't mess around and years ago we heard it's the best.  And even though I don't like to talk about bathrooms...I like for them to do their job and to do it heartily ifyouknowwhatimsaying. Amen & amen.
